The biggest challenges often bring out the best in people. Certainly, this was true at Mosaic during last winter's record snowfall. Numerous Mosaic residential staff volunteered to stay at their posts, often for days, to make sure Mosaic clients were safe. Equipped with nothing more than a few snow shovels, Mosaic employees dug out vehicles, sidewalks, and stairs to make sure that clients got where they needed to go and that programs were quickly reopened. Facilities staff manned a snow plow to clear parking lots. Westminster staff met at a doughnut shop to plan how they were going to deliver medications to clients who were housebound. Senior managers and supervisors were on duty round-the-clock to coordinate everything from staffing issues to a potential roof cave-in at one Mosaic site.
To honor the Mosaic heroes of the storms, affectionately referred to as Snowmageddon, Mosaic held a special luncheon complete with snow balls! Heroes, all of whom were nominated by fellow staff members, were presented with t-shirts and gift cards. Although Mosaic was happy to have the opportunity to bring special recognition to its dedicated staff, it hopes that Snowmageddon won't become an annual event.
