MD Works Award

Mosaic Community Services is pleased to announce that it received the Maryland Works, Inc. Provider of the Year award for its Evidence Based Practice Supported Employment (EBP SE) program.  This award was presented to Jeff Richardson, Mosaic’s Executive Director, by The Honorable Thomas Perez of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation and The Honorable Cathy Raggio of the Maryland Department of Disabilities at the Maryland Works 1st Annual Employment Awards Luncheon on January 24, 2008.

Mosaic’s EBP SE program provides vocational assistance to adults with mental illnesses through job training, employment opportunities, pre-employment skill building, on-site job support, and other vocational services that promote clients’ economic and social independence and success in the work environments of their choice.  It does so using practices proven effective via extensive scientific evidence (evidence-base) which are also attractive and empowering to clients.  In August 2006 and August 2007 Mosaic’s Catonsville and Baltimore City sites were certified as official Evidence Based Practice sites by the State of Maryland Mental Hygiene Administration.

At present, 43% of clients participating in the program have jobs so far proves that mental illness is by no means an insurmountable obstacle to employment and is a testimony to the client’s and staff’s excellent work and the program’s quality. This percentage is much higher than many other programs.  Employment is a top priority for most adults with mental illness.  It benefits them and their families economically and socially, and benefits our local communities to which such individuals contribute.  The EBP SE’s combination of effective cutting-edge services, talented dedicated staff, and hard-working creative clients makes it a very successful program.
